FELLOW NIGERIANS; How Fellow are we?

Rising from the doldrums of exasperated sleep, I awoke, hoping the early morning rays of light that heralds the birth of a new day, which now pierces my hitherto tightly shut eyes will herald me into a different nation where all man and citizenry can truly say I LOVE MY COUNTRY or like the sport wear designer-NIKE (team before self) COUNTRY BEFORE SELF or better still, I can truly hear and evidently see in truism-MY FELLOW NIGERIANS. During our 49th anniversary I wrote on the first part... FELLOW NIGERIANS, being one of the most used clichés by politicians, political offices holders especially presidents of our 'GREAT COUNTRY' (...chuckles), a cliché now used beyond or is it bereaved of its actual semantic representation be it connotatively or denotatively. I wrote on how the phrase ' fellow Nigerians' no longer meant every man, woman, male or female, child or adult who possess the rare (now almost accidental) privilege of being a citizen either by birth, naturalisation, decency etc, of the country called NIGERIA rather it simply means, (though with semantic restriction as against semantic extension) means a group or elite political sect who most often than none are recycled to take turns at virtually owing a share in Nigeria, hiding under the guise of national interest, to pursue personal interest, enhanced by political offices or god-fatherism to incessantly loot, enrich and un-ashamedly steal or own the resources meant for all, to themselves, Hence, when I hear the phrase FELLOW NIGERIANS, I unlike some others know who exactly are being referred to or rather -I know who truly in their definition are their fellow in Nigeria. The hope of the ordinary man dashed. Future of their children and theirs smashed. The prospect of looking forward to a country of their dream, oblique. Rather their lives, ambitions and survival is filled with intrigues To their churches and mosque they go and pray. Looking forward to a life where they have a reason to stay. All they do is pray, pay and stray Hoping someday they can stay and play. Their country Nigeria mark 51years of independent but they are not truly fellow Nigerians. Their country was 50years independent recently all they get are bomb gifts from their fellow Nigerians probably bought for them by the actual FELLOW NIGERIANS. The issues that concerned them are being politicised and publicised for their takings showing their wicked selfish heart and misgivings. Their country is 51 and the worst rather than the best they can get is from their fellow nigerians in the tags of Boko Haram and MEND promising them a 'befitting' 51st birthday 'gifts', all for the admiration of the FELLOW NIGERIANS. Re branding by change of nomenclature or by sign off (...good people great nation) is just paying lip service. Saying God bless Nigeria isn't just enough, when our most important viture is threatened and our expectation are being shattered and battered by owing countrymen to whom we gave our mandate. As we MARK and reminisce, as against celebrating our 51st independence from british colonial tentacles and saddled socio-political and economic burden we have beeen driven into our self imposed 51 years of neo -colonialism by our own FELLOW NIGERIANS. To this end, I ask this day, Fellow Nigerians ,HOW FELLOW NIGERIANS ARE WE? Have a soul searching independence day asking your self are we truly free, are we truly independent?.
