MY LIFE IN PARTS

This Life I live I was born to live Despite pains I cannot leave Tossed by winds like a leaf My life's dreams, I must live. Love I have now is with peace Even with strains in different pieces Despite barriers- I can’t cease Love I have now still gives me ease. I am sometimes overtaken by rage Blessed with the gift of a witty sage I receive faith from the holy page Hold me high oh rock of age!

HATE STATE, LATE FATE

Image
You are religious & devoted to your faith. Though I wonder If this is just about fate. But then your breathe is filled with so much hate. You tell me we're family, Sorry, I can't relate. How did you bring yourself to this state. I walk on eggshells around you with bate. Ethnicity regardless, I thought we're mate. Spit fire, cause mayhem, irrational at any rate, Pained, Frustrated in despair and now irate, Clenched fist, grinding teeth as you vibrate, Your ethnicity and religion we try to appreciate Knowing we are first humans, this I like to reiterate. Then and only then from this hate emancipate. Can't tell me about love when hate you can't eradicate Talk is cheap so your actions we can't vindicate Must stop the hate so your faith can be up-to-date. Your hate is so deafening, I can't hear your faith. Your hate is so derailing, It shows me your fate. Your hate is so detailed, I see your true state. Your hate is so consistent, it...

WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN

"What is seen is what is known not what could have been" E.A Adeboye My thoughts on the above quote is. While you spend time thinking and regretting how good your life could have turn out. How you missed that opportunity to be great or achieve greatness... I sure do understand how that feels but also how wrong and ungrateful that comes out in the light of how this could have really been. What is seen is what is known, not what could have been.... Spend time thanking,  reminiscing  and rejoicing on how worse things didn't turn out to be that didn't happen. It could have been awful and fatal without any iota of hope but here you are with life in you breath and hope in your sails. Its another opportunity to be alive... A chance to stand up and do something with your life. Things could have been worse. Remember... What is seen is what is known not what could have been. Selah. Seth Ogungbe' @sethorunzi

FIX YOU

Image
Many a time you’re broken and exasperated   Without any hope you’re downhearted  When you try your best but don’t succeed When you get what you want but not what you need Darkness seems to becloud every sense of vision You’ve lost every chance of embarking on your mission Now you’re tired but you can't sleep You’re falling down a hollow steep You try to fix what you presume is the problem Hoping to emerge from it holding an emblem  We try to fix everyone but our self You blame everyone else but yourself You can't fix you by breaking someone-else  Believing you can't be wrong but everyone-else Living in denial we fault others to get if off our sleves You apologize and reconcile but all in shelves  If you don’t fix you it keeps coming back like dejavu Look within, for the solution you seek may just be you The lights that enlightens, always from inward come  Your bones ignited, Fix you, and the lights will guide ...

SHORT NOTES SERIES: Shepherd's Psalm

An actor and an Old preacher once read the 23rd Psalm to the same audience during an audition. The Actor read with perfect intonation, diction, voice modulation and without any linguistic flaw. The Old preacher read the 23rd Psalm with slight errors and with less linguistic proficiency but there was not any dry eye after he finished... A member of the audience with a teary eye said regarding the recitation by both men " the Actor knew the Psalm but the Minister knew the Shepherd" Do you just know the world most popular Psalm or the shepherd in the centre of the Psalm? Are you just another Actor or a prodigy of the old preacher? Do you know "about" the Shepherd or you know the shepherd-Is He really your shepherd? "The Lord is my own Shepherd..." Seth Ogungbe'

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST NIGHT…

As I sat down to have lunch, I had this statement on my imaginative thoughts. Settling down to meal and getting ready to take adevouring swipe at my well prepared plate of sumptuous meal, I had a brief pause only to be unexpectedlyinspired by an emphatic statement. This obviously isn't my favorite way of gettingliterary inspiration, nonetheless, I am confident about the significance of this one. As a matter of fact I probablydon't think I ever had an experience as this form of eureka before but in this case, it happened and it came in the frame of astatement which at that moment I directed at a colleague of mine sitting just a fewdistance away from me on the same dinning table. I couldn't hold it to my self,so after several suppression attempts I had to whisper to her from afar ' …Iknow what you did last night. After being increasingly frustrated that she couldn't readmy lips, I came out uncharacteristically audible, as I articulate these words ofthis statement ...

THE CHRONICLES OF A HEBREW CHILD

Image
Going through my literary repertoire I stumbled on something I wrote on some years back. It’s something I found very inspiring, informative and thought provoking enough to share with you with some little additions. Succinct and precise to teach young people and help with Parenting- its titled THE CHRONICLES OF A HEBREW CHILD: Decade of learning - Age 0 to 9 years (little wonder, at age 3 an Hebrew child in enrolled at the school with the Rabbi to learn the laws of Moses by heart) Decade of discovery- Age 10 to 19 years- We call it the teenage years, the Hebrew Child is expected to discover himself- David killed his own Goliath- Joseph sold to Egypt and discovered his own gifts and achieved his own dreams, Sheidrach Meshach and Abednego together with Daniel discovered themselves in Babylon. Decade of decision- Age 20 to 29 years - Most Hebrew Boys make decisions that either made or marred them at this period;  Absalom, Solomon for instance- one bad the other good. Decade of ...

MAN UNKIND TO MANKIND

(The Sonnet) Oh Man! Like beautiful rose weaved with thorns Partly beast partly human; in between he is torn Two side of a coin spinning good and bad Rising and falling with mistakes like an indecisive lad Blowing hot and cold – warmth and hostility Kind heart a moment –another unwavering rigidity Oh man! Seems your kindness has falling off the cliff Taking human life he can not create, restore or give Oh man! How and when did you get to this? Wolf in human skin, goat among sheep he is Oh Man! Before the mirror you do not find yourself Like a favourite book mysteriously off the shelf Man now unkind to his fellow mankind without remorse Killings, blood spills, hate, pain are now what he shares with us! WE REACT- WE OCCUPY

Image
Its not a crime to be poor...One day the poor will have nothing left to eat but the rich Facial muscles squeezed with elastic stretch Grinding teeth coupled with clinched fist Anger fueled by hungered stomach Eyes blaze with fire like horrid skit Sweaty Palms cranked to every arcs Ached Elbows in akimbo and its marks Roaring at every words that fuel our passion Recalling how we’ve been fooled without caution Spits occasionally spilling out Voice blasting with irrepressible shout Arms carrying placards and clubs Venting and cursing without curb Enough is enough as we’re hard-pressed to reach the limit No longer able to live with their economic indiscreet Realizing we actually own that we now starve for Now ready to fight not just for our present but future (Dedicated to everyone who stood up and still stand against corruption & bad leadership) Written By: Seth Ogungbemi ©sethorunzi All rights reserved by Seth Ogungbemi

THE HORROR OF TERROR

The human face with a reflection of a beast Clean shave with Beastial make up Weakling feet and arms rotting mean feat Resident evil guised in boisterous evil face up Un-humanly unleashing his terror Our humanity is now very much bereaved Our chances at redemption no longer conceived A troubled killer man on rampage- serial killer A diabolical killer one on carnage- ritual killer Obstreperously showing his horror The human life is now treated with levity Our life is choked of its essence and serenity Life we cannot give is taken with un-fazed ease All for selfish undefined reason without cease Personifies the rot in the depth of this terror. For our peace they gave us unsolicited terror For our dreams they exchanged with horror When will all these nightmare and evil end? How do we negotiate this treacherous bend? What do we have to give to end this horror? Can we resort to mosaic law and disposition Terror for terror, hoping it takes us out of this position? ...

NIGHTFALL

Image
The busy day comes to a winding end The part of the day that completes several bends Man, oh man! Come to your lonely beds Joyous or saddened you come to lay your heads Nightfall, the inevitable part of our lives The prospects of the day has been viewed The problems of the previous have been reviewed. The lights that dim our shadow is screwed The moments we wished were smoked like weeds Nightfall highlights our various strives Nightfall it is, not windfall Nightfall it is, yet a pitfall The presence of which we fear to walk-tall Experience of tears with great-fall Nightfall, oh! What a stab of knives. Preceded by a cloud of darkness Conceived in so much wickedness Pre-conceived to bring rest and kindness Oh man! Thou art thrown in so much shrewdness Nightfall! we believe ater you strike, we come alive! Written By Seth Ogungbemi ©sethorunzi all rights reserved by Seth Ogungbemi

WHAT COULD I HAVE BEEN IF I HAD NO FEAR?

Image
My thoughts travelled so many light years in reverse as I listened to my Pastor articulate those 10 words rhetorically as he vibrantly (as usual) spits the words of his sermon. As those words hit my eardrums and sends thoughts through my nerves and cerebrum, my mind can only exhumes dead dreams and vision- plans and ideas that never saw the light of the day- Stillbirths they were. They were terminated by discouraging thorns (words and situation) even before they could find their roots in the imaginative soils of birthed ambitions, talk less of reaching their anticipated and possible prime. But truly what if I never had NO FEAR? What or who could I have been or turned out to be if I had no fear? What could I have been if I had no fear and confronted my doubts like David before Goliath I asked myself Seth, What if I had been a little more persistent and fearless- disregarding seemingly obvious obstacles and give it yet another try or push it up another notch? What if I had no fear? W...

WHEN THERE IS HOPE THERE IS LIFE-part 2

When there is life there is hope they say Hence with emphasis on life and staying alive we pray When there is life they say there is hope-we’re told So with some impudence and revulsion our life unfold Our life saddled with pain and grieves we wait Without rays of optimism we freight and resign to fate Regardless of our bleakness we just hang on afloat Till all fortitude is gone-we are left on shore without a boat Life compared to hope is not anchored to life in itself We try hard but remain disgruntled with so much grief Because we have nothing to live for-suicide considered Suicide is attempted for some but for others-life’s deferred I dare to say; with emphasis- when there is HOPE there is life Not when there is life but rather it is hope that gives reasons to strife What is Life without HOPE? But there is hope even after life! What you hope for you live for-Hope keeps us alive. Irrespective of seemingly ill-fated situation we can only hope Hope makes not ashame...

MOTHERNATURE GROANS IN PAIN

The earth groans in awesome pain Her children losing all their gain The heat of a scorching sun she receives The tildes of its rushing water-tears striking hard like diseases We do not heed but she groans with pain Noisome pestilence interlude her calm silence Mother- nature tries to brawl back with strong résistance Her vengeance come and we are taken aback With Tsunami, earthquakes, eruptions and flood she attacks She is left with no other choice while she groans with pain. To her many question we give no answer But to her various rebuke we run and scamper Most times- of her, we have many different thoughts Like a child chastised looks up to his mother and hurt We forget that to our good only but she groans in pain The gulf between two extremes we can’t explain Love and care mixed with hate and rage- we complain She shelters us like a mother wraps her warmth around a child Yet in a twinkle of time she pounce on same like a lion in the wil...

CAN THE LION BE GREATER THAN THE JUNGLE?

Our thought most time reflects the crust of our cerebral imagination Sometimes mine reflects what I desire, my crossness and indignation. The proverbial lion is the king of the jungle says the African folklore Sitting under the shed of a huge tree we can only take sketch-tour. Our then diminutive mind filled with the image of a lion walking elegantly in the jungle With this aesthetic picture we tangle and wangle all night in rhythmic, re-current mingle The lion- the king and the Jungle is all our minds imagines until this thought expires But what happened when swiftly the hitherto peaceful jungle is on fire. Even the majestic Lion, un-characteristically will be on the run Not because he is weak but maybe because he lives to fight another turn. Can the lion be greater than the Jungle? A group of lions covered by a large colored ‘umbrella’ Walk tall in a jungle mixed with different species in an area. The Lions and their umbrella now covers and harbors danger The crust of t...

‘To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approves not-‘

‘To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approves not-‘ We have been on either side of this statement consciously or subconsciously, we have been subverted by someone’s action and other times we have subverted some other people by our own actions. Subversion –to coerce, rebel against, to cheat, to frustrate, intimidate or subject to a condition My thought is, before we cry fowl play lets check how often we have played fowl ourselves. Before we invoke this scripture in seeking Justice from He who disapproves of it, lets be sure we are on the right side of the law ourselves. ‘To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approves not’ -Lamentations 3 vs 36

WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?

‘Our strength is shown in the things we stand for; our weakness is shown in the things we fall for we have strengths in varying degrees. This is very much exhibited in the what we stand for . when we fall its not a matter of whether we can fall or not but its a matter of where are weakness lies. We will be faced with challenges and difficulties most often times than not but the question if how often we fall. Remember Ephraim in the scriptures? We may break and fall but we should learn from our fall and gain strength. Like Peter, when we fall and we are back up we are expected to strengthen the rest. BUT the fundamental question is what do we even stand for? WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR? What we stand for defines us as much as what we fall for..‘Our strength is shown in the things we stand for; our weakness is shown in the things we fall for' We are called to rise up and stand up for what we stand for lest we fall for anything.
