FEAR OF FEAR

Someone once asked me, Seth… what is your greatest fear? I took a very long straight pause, saddled by the weight of prioritizing amongst many options, trying to reach the deepest crust of my thinking depth. What is my greatest fear? I asked myself! In split seconds I had different thoughts striking my mind like tidal current of the costal beach making its unhindered path to meet the costal shores. My heart and mind kept drumming and thumping in a rhythmic pattern as if it is about to burst open emitting gas properties like a coke bottle thoroughly shaken and then loosing its cork. I can only imagine and open my heart not my mouth to receive the answer to the question… What is my greatest fear? Is it my PAST or PRESENT or THE FUTURE? I needed to give an all capturing, all- capsulating and encompassing response… Is it Death, Betrayal, dishonesty, Poverty, failure or what? I can only keep thinking while the time kept ticking and trickling. In my face like a punch… like a snap an

FEAR OF FEAR

LAST OF TWELVE ROUNDS

With each days running into weeks and into months We had up and downs in obstacles we had to surmount With each stride we strife With faith we live life With our hearts high up we run the race Almost over we aim at the tape to embrace Some of our dreams not yet achieved With so many others still conceived But yet we dare to try and believe For a better ending we’ll receive With eleven down and just one left our anxieties are up But there is still all to fight for in the last, so we brace- up The hour before our anticipated dawn is always the darkest But after the rains and flood, the rainbow is surely at its brightest (This simple sonnet is dedicated to all for a fruitful year ending and a happy new month of December) Written By: Seth Ogungbemi

WHEN THERE IS HOPE THERE IS LIFE-part 2

When there is life there is hope they say Hence with emphasis on life and staying alive we pray When there is life they say there is hope-we’re told So with some impudence and revulsion our life unfold Our life saddled with pain and grieves we wait Without rays of optimism we freight and resign to fate Regardless of our bleakness we just hang on afloat Till all fortitude is gone-we are left on shore without a boat Life compared to hope is not anchored to life in itself We try hard but remain disgruntled with so much grief Because we have nothing to live for-suicide considered Suicide is attempted for some but for others-life’s deferred I dare to say; with emphasis- when there is HOPE there is life Not when there is life but rather it is hope that gives reasons to strife What is Life without HOPE? But there is hope even after life! What you hope for you live for-Hope keeps us alive. Irrespective of seemingly ill-fated situation we can only hope Hope makes not ashame

MOTHERNATURE GROANS IN PAIN

The earth groans in awesome pain Her children losing all their gain The heat of a scorching sun she receives The tildes of its rushing water-tears striking hard like diseases We do not heed but she groans with pain Noisome pestilence interlude her calm silence Mother- nature tries to brawl back with strong résistance Her vengeance come and we are taken aback With Tsunami, earthquakes, eruptions and flood she attacks She is left with no other choice while she groans with pain. To her many question we give no answer But to her various rebuke we run and scamper Most times- of her, we have many different thoughts Like a child chastised looks up to his mother and hurt We forget that to our good only but she groans in pain The gulf between two extremes we can’t explain Love and care mixed with hate and rage- we complain She shelters us like a mother wraps her warmth around a child Yet in a twinkle of time she pounce on same like a lion in the wil

TWO SIDEs OF A COIN-

Tossed high above in the air with projectile force Flipping and spinning in the air in rhythmic mode Uncertainty in the mind of the awaiting and gazing eyes Plagued with equal plausibility and possibility Yet the tension is most often than not high With only either of two possible outcome nigh Head or tail- true or false-right or wrong. Without any choice an outcome will be reached. Attempt otherwise will be some sort of colossal failure The depths of this thoughts brings pain and gain- Tonnes of Salt poured to enrich an ocean- futility Ice wrapped and packaged to be sold to an Eskimo- implausibility Attempt to convert the pope from Catholicism – audacity Work and wages molted into a coin-inseparable The issue isn’t the outcome but in whose favour. We may not win always but in our loss we grow strong It may be victory today but defeat isn’t avoided yet. We rise to the zenith but a slip can make it go away Like two side of a coin so is victory and defeat on the same pa

CAN THE LION BE GREATER THAN THE JUNGLE?

Our thought most time reflects the crust of our cerebral imagination Sometimes mine reflects what I desire, my crossness and indignation. The proverbial lion is the king of the jungle says the African folklore Sitting under the shed of a huge tree we can only take sketch-tour. Our then diminutive mind filled with the image of a lion walking elegantly in the jungle With this aesthetic picture we tangle and wangle all night in rhythmic, re-current mingle The lion- the king and the Jungle is all our minds imagines until this thought expires But what happened when swiftly the hitherto peaceful jungle is on fire. Even the majestic Lion, un-characteristically will be on the run Not because he is weak but maybe because he lives to fight another turn. Can the lion be greater than the Jungle? A group of lions covered by a large colored ‘umbrella’ Walk tall in a jungle mixed with different species in an area. The Lions and their umbrella now covers and harbors danger The crust of t

WHOSE REFLECTION IS ON THE MIRROR?

Image
WHOSE REFLECTION IS ON THE MIRROR? My thoughts are grinded in the depths of my imagination. Saddled with brimming and overwhelming scary complications Maybe I should crack and then I take a break? Or I just brace myself up and face issues head-on without brakes! A father takes away the sexual innocence of his daughter-that’s Cranky! A mother pressurizes her child to immoral insolence-that’s tacky! Who is a saint and who is a sinner? is a question we are faced with daily. The answers to this we are willing to provide consciously or not rarely. *Sometime I try to look at the rhythm in rhymes and times *But the truth is we can only see it after repentance to crimes Who is the criminal? Knowing well we live in a whole of contradictions. Saints could as well be the sinners and the Sinner the saints-indignation. We live in a world where the truth is distorted and purpose misconstrued. We can longer differentiate what and who is right, rather we are confused. You look at the mirror but can’t

PRESSURE BURST PIPE

Image
In a bid to live a happy life especially that which we dream of, we most often than not put pressure on ourselves and by extension we put pressure on that one person who love us the most, if not those who care about us … partner, friend or family. It is good to have dreams and ambitions. It is also relatively extremely important we pursue them tenaciously but as we do lets always remember the CAUTION Button so that we wouldn’t have to hit the PANIC Button later on. Very Important and Most Crucial, If we forget anything DON’T FORGET THIS! PRESSURE BURST PIPE!

‘To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approves not-‘

‘To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approves not-‘ We have been on either side of this statement consciously or subconsciously, we have been subverted by someone’s action and other times we have subverted some other people by our own actions. Subversion –to coerce, rebel against, to cheat, to frustrate, intimidate or subject to a condition My thought is, before we cry fowl play lets check how often we have played fowl ourselves. Before we invoke this scripture in seeking Justice from He who disapproves of it, lets be sure we are on the right side of the law ourselves. ‘To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approves not’ -Lamentations 3 vs 36

EVIL DEVIL; GOOD GOD

Dear Friend; I was inspired to write this sometime ago i thought you might be inspired or re-assured by it! EVIL DEVIL; GOOD GOD On many occasions we have seen life from two sides of a coin. Head or tail- Life or death; Grace or disgrace; Faith or frail, Health or illness- Believe or disbelieve Alas! We have come to live with it. Similarly, we have one truth that is very consistent just like head or tail of a coin. GOD and DEVIL. Without any iota of repentance, either is committed to what they represent. As each day comes, the devil is more and more the EVIL DEVIL that he is; as worrisome as this may sound, the good news is that Our GOD IS A GOOD GOD! There are no good ways to make bad good-Truism! No matter how good the devil makes it look; it will only have a bad end in the long run… WHY? - Its just not in his nature to be good! The earlier we realize this truth the better for us. AND THE CHILD WAS BORN…

AND THE CHILD WAS BORN… (Remembrance of Birth) Roughly 3 decades ago, a male-child was born, his presence heralded by the piercing tiny wailing of a cry. With joy profusely coming from the mother’s face expressed with chicks squeezed with unequalled smile. The father carried his child with a high sense of responsibility and fulfillment coupled with a heart reaching to the Father of all in whom there is no variableness or shadow of turning, from whom a gift like this comes. This was the experience my parents felt those several years ago. Though it looked long ago but I am sure those memories strikes their hearts each time like it was just the day before. It is this memories I celebrate today coupled with the little achievement and grace I have been blessed to receive. With Good people, friends and colleagues around, church and biological family members, nieces and nephews, siblings and Parents- (Mine and My great in-laws) and my lovely, beautiful and cute wife…Life is what celebrat

GOD’S OWN CHAIN SUPERMARKET

Image
GOD’S OWN CHAIN SUPERMARKET Recently, I was inspired to write on the above subject by the synopsis from the sermon by Rev. Yomi Kasali. He was sharing from what he subjects-The Days of Elijah. With this , coupled with some of my own deep thoughts I came to a conclusion that ‘God now runs’ one of the most psychedelic, improved and well packaged chain supermarket, better still a business franchise with all kinds of stocks, stuff, services and goods on parade for any customer who cares to buy in… maybe I borrow the cliché KEY-IN. The likes of PARK ‘N’ SHOP, SHOPRITE, and NAPEX etc are being giving a run for their money. A competitor they are lest aware of, no thanks to the chameleonic or camouflaged nature of this new multi-faceted and spherical competitor. Strange as this may sound, yet it bugs the mind to know it is true and the franchise is being run by some of the best and gifted Orator cum Marketer to have graced the 21st century business platform. Dressed in well designed designer s

WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?

‘Our strength is shown in the things we stand for; our weakness is shown in the things we fall for we have strengths in varying degrees. This is very much exhibited in the what we stand for . when we fall its not a matter of whether we can fall or not but its a matter of where are weakness lies. We will be faced with challenges and difficulties most often times than not but the question if how often we fall. Remember Ephraim in the scriptures? We may break and fall but we should learn from our fall and gain strength. Like Peter, when we fall and we are back up we are expected to strengthen the rest. BUT the fundamental question is what do we even stand for? WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR? What we stand for defines us as much as what we fall for..‘Our strength is shown in the things we stand for; our weakness is shown in the things we fall for' We are called to rise up and stand up for what we stand for lest we fall for anything. WHAT KILLED SAPPHIRA?

Image
WHAT KILLED SAPPHIRA? Often time than not, we look at some of the greatest bible characters and their corresponding stories and wonder how it played out then and in some cases ponder with aesthetic thoughts given the same situation in the 21st century, what would have played out. No doubt one of the most striking stories of the apostolic era is that of the couple named Ananias and Sapphira. The story is relevant to us today not because they were a couple but because it is a story that brings or should bring sanity to the church as a sin against the Holy Spirit was grievously frown at and punished in real time. Recently I was having a chat with a Christian friend and he raised the question, what killed Sapphira? I raised the issue on my Facebook status and my fellow Christians gave the obvious answer, even though, some gave a different answer . This question became more interesting as we look at it more intrinsically or better still, looking at it overtly at the same time. What Kill

ONE DAY...WE’LL LIVE LIFE

ONE DAY...WE’LL LIVE LIFE One day our pains shall be no more Then our gains will be much more We’ll ride on flint feet horses There shall be no more losses We’ll fly with free flapping wings We’ll smile without mood swings Our many fears will be allayed Our tears wiped-forever away We will dance to concerted tunes We will sing without auto-tunes Our lives will be forever long We will live forever young In His house are many mansions This He assured us with much passion. Just after we live now and die We will rise up again and fly We'll live a new life to die no more Our joy will be forever more One day we’ll leave life to live life Life we will live ...eternal life it is.
