FELLOW NIGERIANS; How Fellow are we?

Rising from the doldrums of exasperated sleep, I awoke, hoping the early morning rays of light that heralds the birth of a new day, which now pierces my hitherto tightly shut eyes will herald me into a different nation where all man and citizenry can truly say I LOVE MY COUNTRY or like the sport wear designer-NIKE (team before self) COUNTRY BEFORE SELF or better still, I can truly hear and evidently see in truism-MY FELLOW NIGERIANS. During our 49th anniversary I wrote on the first part... FELLOW NIGERIANS, being one of the most used clichés by politicians, political offices holders especially presidents of our 'GREAT COUNTRY' (...chuckles), a cliché now used beyond or is it bereaved of its actual semantic representation be it connotatively or denotatively. I wrote on how the phrase ' fellow Nigerians' no longer meant every man, woman, male or female, child or adult who possess the rare (now almost accidental) privilege of being a citizen either by birth, natur...

THE HORROR OF TERROR

The human face with a reflection of a beast Clean shave with Beastial make up Weakling feet and arms rotting mean feat Resident evil guised in boisterous evil face up Un-humanly unleashing his terror Our humanity is now very much bereaved Our chances at redemption no longer conceived A troubled killer man on rampage- serial killer A diabolical killer one on carnage- ritual killer Obstreperously showing his horror The human life is now treated with levity Our life is choked of its essence and serenity Life we cannot give is taken with un-fazed ease All for selfish undefined reason without cease Personifies the rot in the depth of this terror. For our peace they gave us unsolicited terror For our dreams they exchanged with horror When will all these nightmare and evil end? How do we negotiate this treacherous bend? What do we have to give to end this horror? Can we resort to mosaic law and disposition Terror for terror, hoping it takes us out of this position? ...

FLAWS -FLAMES-FURY -FAITH

Image
Straight into the heart it pierces Coated with devastating venom Shattering hopes and faith into pieces Leaving humongous hole and a vacuum The limit of wailing has been exceeded Thought of redemption far not quite near Present situation exasperating and compounded Hope set ablaze in split second here and there Heart-quaking- Fist clinched Thoughts distorted-eyes dimed Furious with emotional thirst unquenched What kind of twinge is this –I queried ‘Keep faith...’ says the Preacher-man I have heard this sermonette often than required Yet this pills of pain I can no longer swallow like a man Is this fate...' Is all I can muster and enquired? Disappointments and treachery shows flaws Our dreams, Passion and hope may seem in flames These pains and hopelessness brings us to emotional Fury But to fate we cant resign…all we still got is FAITH Dedictated to all hearts that kept faith despite the burning flames, flaws and fury within. Half Time-Team Talk

Image
Games are not always won and lost in the first half There can always be a come back in the second half Sometimes the result of the first half is overwhelming The gulf of difference in score line could be disheartening The chance of staging a comeback quite slim and tasking The fight for restoration and superseding it is exasperating Six months gone bye but another set of six come near We hope, fight and do all but not resign to despair and fear As we look up, watch out and throw in some brave fight We are faced with many memories but we fight like a Knight As the grip of anxiety stick us like a nightmare at night But as a true knight we can only battle on with all our might Where did we fail, what has been our strength and weakness? We may be down but not out –we have a whole half to show our greatness Like Peak- it’s in you, like Guinness there is a drop of greatness in you Like an eagle we defile both gravity and the Condor and come up too We can just push our selves ...

PERSEVERANCE

Perseverance is genius covered in a resolute mind Genius is infinite patience. It is the protracted string of persistence. It does not pay to hurry... With the continuous heating and cooling of the rocks, it quakes Its sheer doggedness covered in purpose. It’s the high point of diligence and commitment. It’s what differentiates men from men. It’s the explanation of our response to adversity. In the presence of adversities some grow wings others buy crutches. A wise man would let the fire do its work on the iron. He allows heat for as long as possible before he strikes. So, perseverance comes first above talent, even above genius! NIGHTFALL

Image
The busy day comes to a winding end The part of the day that completes several bends Man, oh man! Come to your lonely beds Joyous or saddened you come to lay your heads Nightfall, the inevitable part of our lives The prospects of the day has been viewed The problems of the previous have been reviewed. The lights that dim our shadow is screwed The moments we wished were smoked like weeds Nightfall highlights our various strives Nightfall it is, not windfall Nightfall it is, yet a pitfall The presence of which we fear to walk-tall Experience of tears with great-fall Nightfall, oh! What a stab of knives. Preceded by a cloud of darkness Conceived in so much wickedness Pre-conceived to bring rest and kindness Oh man! Thou art thrown in so much shrewdness Nightfall! we believe ater you strike, we come alive! Written By Seth Ogungbemi ©sethorunzi all rights reserved by Seth Ogungbemi

WHAT COULD I HAVE BEEN IF I HAD NO FEAR?

Image
My thoughts travelled so many light years in reverse as I listened to my Pastor articulate those 10 words rhetorically as he vibrantly (as usual) spits the words of his sermon. As those words hit my eardrums and sends thoughts through my nerves and cerebrum, my mind can only exhumes dead dreams and vision- plans and ideas that never saw the light of the day- Stillbirths they were. They were terminated by discouraging thorns (words and situation) even before they could find their roots in the imaginative soils of birthed ambitions, talk less of reaching their anticipated and possible prime. But truly what if I never had NO FEAR? What or who could I have been or turned out to be if I had no fear? What could I have been if I had no fear and confronted my doubts like David before Goliath I asked myself Seth, What if I had been a little more persistent and fearless- disregarding seemingly obvious obstacles and give it yet another try or push it up another notch? What if I had no fear? W...
